The China-Democratic Republic of the Congo Media Forum was held on Wednesday in Kinshasa, bringing together about 250 participants, including government officials, media representatives, and business leaders from both countries.

The forum focused on media cooperation and broader engagement between China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with discussions covering development priorities, communication strategies, and the role of media in bilateral relations.

In a video address, Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency, said the forum takes place during the 70th anniversary of China’s diplomatic relations with African countries and coincides with the China Africa Year of People to People Exchanges.

He said Xinhua plans to expand cooperation with Congolese media institutions and to support exchanges and discussions on issues related to development and communication.

Democratic Republic of the Congo Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Daniel Mukoko Samba said relations between China and the DRC have developed through cooperation and engagement over time. He added that media platforms can contribute to improving understanding between the two countries.

“The media plays a bridging role, helping to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples,” he said.

Minister of Communication and Media Patrick Muyaya described the forum as a step in expanding cooperation in the media sector. He called for closer institutional collaboration and highlighted the importance of addressing challenges such as misinformation.

Muyaya also encouraged the use of emerging technologies, including digital systems and artificial intelligence, in news production and distribution.

Bienvenu Bakumanya, head of the Congolese Press Agency, said the forum reflects a shift toward more structured engagement between media institutions in both countries.

Chinese Ambassador to the DRC Zhao Bin said relations between the two countries are entering a new phase, adding that cooperation in media and communication is expected to continue expanding.

The forum was co hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the Congolese Press Agency and included a photo exhibition highlighting aspects of cooperation between the two countries.
