Monday 22 December 2025 - 06:00am

Host nation Morocco began their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign with a composed 2–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

After a tightly contested first half, Morocco asserted control following the break. Goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi secured a confident opening win, placing the hosts at the top of Group A ahead of the later fixture between Mali and Zambia.

The result provided an assured start for Morocco as they seek to capitalize on home advantage in the 24-team continental tournament. AFCON 2025 is being staged across nine stadiums in six Moroccan cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Agadir, Fes, and Marrakech.

Under the tournament format, the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed sides, will advance to the round of 16.

Morocco’s disciplined performance underlined their status as one of the tournament favorites, while Comoros will look to regroup ahead of their next group encounter. | NNA TV+ / Xinhwa
